Laura, we all know that sport can play an important role in improving the lives not only of individuals, but for the whole communities. How to become a good runner ?.
First you have to decide that you want to practice sport seriously. I love sport. In recent years I was dedicated to brisk walking in the parks over most days of the week, and sometimes I would even run and jog little. But I always failed to go for real competition.

Why did you fail ? Laziness or what ?
No, I was not short of motivation to get moving. The only problem I had was lack of time. You know when you get busy with career and your own life cycle, you struggle to focus on everything at the same time and speed that you wish.

What are your suggestions to practice amateurish sport seriously ?
First, you have to focus on the reasons why you want to become a runner or a jogger. Some good reasons are to improve your body shape, lose weight, feel better. But whatever your motivations are, you have to develop a habit, create a time in your schedule and be disciplined.

How to start with your schedule ?
Start slow, very slow. Run at whatever pace that allows you to go the farthest distance possible, but add and build a little bit each day.

For when you start, is there any threshold that you have to work upon ?
As I said before, start slow. Go as far as you can at a comfortable pace, but never speed up and don’t pay too much attention to your watch. If you need to walk a little and then start running or jogging again, do that. At amateurish level you are not expected to prepare for the next Olympics Games. The threshold you mean, is simply dictated by your own feeling and motivation.

You may share my belief that in any sport you want to get involved , you have to sign up for a regular medical checkup.
Absolutely. Regardless to age and gender , before you start practicing sport, you have to have an annual checkup specially for cardio. Don’t skip this part, specially if you are a smoker.

Any more counseling before we finish this interview ?
Well, lot of advices can be given but time is short . One thing I always suggest is to rest your body . Take at least a couple of days off per week. Get enough sleep each night and have a particular attention to your diet.

Thank you Laura . Your tips are very helpful. I wish they would help me to start jogging tomorrow.
